(GSM) – Barcelona defender Eric Abidal has admitted that he does not know if his international career is at an end.
The 31-year-old has yet to be called upon by new France coach Laurent Blanc, casting his Les Bleus future into doubt.
Despite having just crossed his thirties, the Frenchman is also some way short of calling time on his career and insists he remains available for selection.
However, having been part of the shambolic showing at this summer’s World Cup, he fears that he may have been ushered into premature international retirement.
“In football there is no logic and I am thinking that I might not get called upon again,” said Abidal.
“I remain at Les Bleus’ disposal though. If I play several good matches in a row, the coach might call on me again.
“If the national coach feels I am not needed anymore, he will have to let me know.
“Without knowing it, some players might have played their last international match at the 2010 World Cup. Maybe I am in that situation.”
