Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has visited Germany’s Euro 2012 camp, where he met with Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger.
National team coach Joachim Loew has confirmed that the Russian oligarch met with the influential midfielder, but stressed that there is nothing behind the 45-year-old’s surprise visit.
“Roman Abramovich paid us a visit and had a talk with Bastian,” the 52-year-old told Hamburger Abendblatt.
“They were having a laugh with each other, and Bastian congratulated him with the Champions League win. I don’t think there’s anything behind the meeting.”
The Chelsea owner also watched Russia’s 1-1 draw against Poland on Tuesday, and Schweinsteiger insisted that they had not discuss a potential transfer.
“I was surprised to see him and wondered why he was here. I’ve congratulated him and we had a brief chat. No, he didn’t make me an offer,” Schweinsteiger said.
Schweinsteiger missed the decisive penalty during the shoot-out, to ensure the west Londoners of the Champions League victory for the first time in their history.
