According to a report in the Daily Star, Roman Abramovich would pay as much as £85million for Spanish hitman Fernando Torres, if he thought he could get him.
Chelsea’s billionaire owner was an admiring onlooker on Sunday night where the Liverpool striker dominated Spain’s European Championship victory over Germany, getting the only goal of the match.
Their first reported offer of £50m was strongly snubbed by Liverpool and Torres went on to pledge his loyalty to the Merseyside. However the Russian oligarch is now ready to up the ante to lure the Spanish ace. It is also reported that a weekly salary of more than £200,000 could be on the table.
Abramovich, is determined to rebuild Chelsea’s squad for new manager Luis Scolari and has put aside more than a reported £250 million to capture new talent. The Russian craves a Champions League crown as well as attractive attacking football and as a consequence, many players have been linked with a move to the Bridge this summer. Names like Robinho and Arshavin, Ronaldinho and Eto’o have all been the object of much speculation during the past few weeks.
So far the Blues have only managed to secure Portuguese pair Deco and Boswinga for the new season but more faces are surely to arrive in the coming weeks.
