While Lazio’s defeat was always going to ease the pressure a bit on Juventus heading into tonight’s game, they still had to put on a show in order to let the world know that they are ready to claim the Serie A title once again. Unfortunately for them, they didn’t quite do that at the San Siro as they were decisively beaten by AC Milan following a magnificent comeback from the hosts.

Historic comeback

The first half saw the two juggernauts of Italian football feel each other out in what was a pretty tense 45 minutes. Neither team was really able to gain the upper hand, but the popular opinion was that Juve would be able to kick on in the second half.

Within two minutes of the restart, the Old Lady lived up to that thought as Adrien Rabiot gave them the lead. Then, six minutes later, Cristiano Ronaldo made it two as he continues to reaffirm his status as one of the best players in world football. Alas, while that may still be the case, another man claims to be one of the game’s greatest too: and that man is Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Back in business

The Swede kickstarted an absolutely crazy 18 minute spell by bringing Milan to within one goal of Juve from the penalty spot. Then, in the blink of an eye, Franck Kessie had equalised to really turn the game on its head. Juve were stunned and clearly didn’t know how to recover, which showed just seconds after the equalising goal with Rafael Leao giving Milan the most unlikely of leads.

Ante Rebic ensured the result was signed, sealed and delivered in the 80th minute, as AC Milan continue their resurgence in their attempt to become one of Italy’s top dogs once again. They’ll now focus their attention on what is bound to be another tough encounter against Napoli this weekend, whereas Juventus will be incredibly wary this Saturday in their home game against Atalanta. If they end up losing that game, the title race could still get very interesting.
