La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that AC Milan are on the verge of recruiting Spanish defender Alvaro Arbeloa from Real Madrid.
The veteran footballer was free to negotiate to interested sides as his deal with los Blancos came to an end and he is set to accept the offer from San Siro.
The interesting thing is that new AC Milan head coach Vincenzo Montella plans to use Arbeloa as a central defender.
It appears that the Rossoneri decided to turn their attention to the Spaniard after their primary target Mateo Musacchio rejected a move to San Siro.
AC Milan need defensive reinforcements considering that Cristian Zapata is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines and they could add another centre-back to their ranks even if Arbeloa joins.
The 33-year-old has spent last seven years at Santiago Bernabeu, making 154 La Liga appearances and scoring 3 goals.
