Zlatan Ibrahimovic will not be returning to AC Milan during winter.
The 37-year-old Swedish superstar has been widely expected to make a January switch back to Rossoneri but the Serie A club’s sporting director Leonardo has moved to dismiss such claims.
Ibrahimovic is coming off from a successful season with LA Galaxy – on a personal level at least – having scored 22 goals in 27 matches in the MLS.
The Swede is now available to join European clubs on a loan deal until March 2019, when the new MLS season is scheduled to begin.
AC Milan previously admitted bringing Ibrahimovic back would be a dream-like scenario and an emotional affair for Rossoneri but Leonardo said the veteran forward will not be arriving after all.
“It would’ve been nice but it isn’t possible”, Leonardo told Sky Italy.
The AC Milan sporting director did reveal a couple of transfer plans, however, claiming that Rossoneri will be making a move for a midfielder and a striker.
Chelsea playmaker Cesc Fabregas is a person of interest.
“We are evaluating the conditions and possibilities (regarding Fabregas)”, he added.
