AC Milan forward Jeremy Menez has revealed he has no regrets at rejecting a move to Manchester United in the summer of 2010.
Menez, 27, joined Milan on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, and has already bagged three goals in three Serie A appearances for the Rossoneri.
While at Roma four years ago, Menez was courted by then-manager Sir Alex Ferguson, but the 27-year-old ultimately turned down the chance to move to Old Trafford.
“Saying no to Ferguson wasn’t easy, but I was still young and I had to follow my own path,” Menez told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Then when [former manager Vincenzo] Montella came to Roma, it became difficult for everybody. Before he came, I was playing all the time, but he had different ideas.
“I was then a first-team regular at Paris Saint-Germain under Carlo Ancelotti, but Laurent Blanc came along and he dropped me.
“After an operation, I came back and scored, but nothing changed. I accepted his decision, even if it was hard.
“It was a difficult year, but it helped me grow.”
After being frozen out by Laurent Blanc at PSG, Menez has set his sights on achieving a top-three finish with Milan this season.
“With Milan, we can aim for the Scudetto,” added Menez. “I really believe we can win it.
“Our minimum aim has got to be a top-three finish and a place in the Champions League, though. Milan can compete with anybody.”
Ramires eyes long-term Chelsea stay
Having recently surpassed the 200 appearance mark for Chelsea, Brazil international midfielder Ramires has insisted he intends to stay at Stamford Bridge for “much longer.”
Ramires, who joined Chelsea from Benfica for €22 million in August 2010, has lost his starting-place in the Blues’ first-team to new arrival Cesc Fabregas.
However, the Brazilian is still a very important for Mourinho and co., and will likely feature in the biggest matches against the biggest clubs in both the Champions League and the Premier League.
“I am very proud to have completed these 200 games for Chelsea,” Ramires told Gazeta Esportva.
“It’s a huge honour to be one of the players in the current squad that have worn the shirt the most times.
“I hope to be at Chelsea for much longer and to achieve other important milestones in the future of the club.”
“If I had to pick the best moments of what I have done in a Chelsea shirt, to score against Barcelona and to win the Champions League title would be highlights.
“Those are memories immortalised in the history of the club and in my memory.
“As I said, I hope to continue at Chelsea for a long time and to accumulate more good things to tell my children and grandchildren.”
