Brazilian striker Adriano will miss at least the next five months after suffering an Achilles tendon injury while training with new club Corinthians.
Adriano, who had just recovered from an injury to his right shoulder suffered at Roma, was scheduled to have surgery on his Achilles on Wednesday.
“The player was examined by the club’s medical department who confirmed the need for surgery, which will be carried out on Wednesday,” a statement on the Corinthians’ website read.
The club had hoped Adriano, 29, would make his debut against Gremio next month.
Off-field problems and injuries have beset the former Flamengo, Inter, Parma player, who failed to score in the Serie A during his spell at Roma.
