Disgraced FIFA delegate Amos Adamu will appeal his three-year ban for soliciting bribes to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Adamu was slapped with the lengthy suspension by the body’s ethics committee in November after being caught attempting to sell his vote for the 2022 World Cup.
The Nigerian, in his capacity as a FIFA executive committee member, was captured on video offering to vote for the United States’ 2022 bid in return for cash to build football pitches in his home nation.
FIFA’s appeals committee upheld the three-year ban at the weekend, leaving Adamu no choice but to take his case to Lausanne.
“I am extremely disappointed by the findings of the FIFA appeals committee as announced,” Adamu said.
“It had been my hope that the appeals committee would completely exonerate me and restore Nigeria’s representation on the international football stage. Sadly this has not proved to be the case.”
“My next step will be to appeal this decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport and I am currently taking legal advice in this regard and cannot comment further on this process.”
“I count myself lucky to enjoy the support of my colleagues in Nigeria who have committed to support me in clearing my name.”
The appeals committee also upheld a one-year ban meted out to former Oceania Football Confederation President Reynald Temarii for breaching FIFA rules.
