On-loan Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor is seeking a return to the international game, according to Togo FA vice-president Herve Piza.

The former Togo captain, who is on loan at White Hart Lane from Manchester City, quit the international game after the team’s bus was attacked at the African Cup of Nations in Angola in January 2010, leaving three of the forward’s friends dead.

However, with World Cup qualifiers starting in just over a month, Piza told reporters he is confident the 27-year-old will make a dramatic return.

“We hope and believe our efforts will come to fruition,” Piza said.

“Adebayor expressed a desire to rejoin the team towards the end of the 2012 African Nations Cup qualifying campaign.”

“He eventually chose to stay back. But the World Cup is important to him.”

The experienced striker is currently in fine form in the Premier League, having netted three goals in his first four games for Spurs.

Togo, who have only reached the World Cup finals once before, will be hoping the return of their star striker can propel them to a second appearance.

The African side begin their campaign as clear favourites in their opening fixture against Guinea-Bissau on November 11.
