According to ESPN Star, Emmanuel Adebayor is set to join Tottenham Hotspur on loan from Manchester City. Adebayor had always been rumoured to be leaving Etihad Stadium, following a loan spell at Spanish giants Real Madrid. The out of favour Togolese talisman has finally found a new, temporary home at White Hart Lane. After a season that saw Spurs’ striker tally a meager 17 goals in the Premier League, Adebayor is exactly what Harry Redknapp and Tottenham needed.
Adebayor will surely be placed into the first team immediately, surpassing the likes of Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe, and Roman Pavlyuchenko in the pecking order. Last season, Adebayor tallied five goals in 12 matches with Manchester City before being loaned out to Real Madrid. While with Los Blancos, Adebayor bagged eight goals in 22 games.
What Can Adebayor Do For Spurs?
Everything. The former Togo international provides Spurs with a legitimate aerial threat, like Peter Crouch, but with the finishing ability of a world-class striker. He can score with either foot from inside of the eighteen yard box or from beyond it. When on form, Adebayor is one of the best strikers on the planet. He will prove to be a great signing for Tottenham Hotspur.
Has the Addition of Adebayor Made Spurs a Contender to Finish in the Top Four?
Absolutely. Spurs inking Adebayor is bad news for 18 Premier League clubs, aside from Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur of course. Many football experts felt as if Spurs were one good striker away from sealing back-to-back Champions League places last season. Now that Redknapp has brought a front-man to White Hart Lane, it’s time for the rest of the league to wait and see which Emmanuel Adebayor shows up week in and week out.
What Does Adebayor Joining Spurs Mean for the Gunners?
Well for one thing, it gives Arsenal supporters another reason to despise Emmanuel Adebayor. Secondly, it may mean that the Gunners hopes to finish in the top four are severely hurt. In my mind, the signing of Adebayor has put Tottenham over Arsenal as favourites to grab fourth place in the Premier League in 2011-12. The top three places will surely be taken by Manchester United, Manchester City, and Chelsea, in that order.
Robbie Keane Set For MLS
According to the Daily Mail, sources close to Spurs striker Robbie Keane are claiming that the Republic of Ireland international is set to join the Los Angeles Galaxy on Monday. The club have reportedly issued a deadline of 4.59am on Monday for Keane to make his final decision. Reports are suggesting that Spurs would accept a bid in the region of three million pounds in order to free up £70,000-a-week in player wages. Keane is coming of a disappointing 2010-11 season in which he appeared in only 20 games for Spurs and West Ham United (loan), while netting just three goals.
