Emmanuel Adebayor has ended months of intense speculation linking him with a move away from Arsenal by agreeing a new contract with the club. AC Milan and Barcelona were the front-runners in the race to sign the Togo striker, but now it looks like he will be staying put.
The Daily Mail reports that Adebayor has agreed a £65,000 per week deal which should keep the player at the club until 2012. According to the report, Adebayor will sign the deal today.
“I can tell everyone today I will sign a contract. I am feeling very good here, very well here and at the moment my heart is with Arsenal,” said Adebayor according to the report.
The news also delighted Arsene Wenger, who complained about player poaching yesterday.
“There is a game going on in Europe where the big clubs tap up our players. They let us do the work and develop the players and then they think they can just come in and offer him big wages but after they cannot come up with the transfer request. It should be the other way round,” said the French manager.
