Adebayor wants to stay

Stories regarding the future of Emmanuel Adebayor would be worthy of a live commentary – given that they are updated every six hours or so. Yesterday evening, the agent of the Togolese striker was quoted as saying that his player could not say no to a club like AC Milan. Now, Adebayor insists that there is no truth behind the rumours linking him away from the Emirates Stadium.

“My future with Arsenal has never been in doubt and I want to assure fans I will be here for many years.

“My agent has met with coach Arsene Wenger about a new deal and I am happy about how the talks are going so fans can rest assured.” Said Adebayor, as reported by The Sun.

It seems unlikely that this rumour will come to an end before the transfer window closes unless something happens. But, if these reports are correct, then Arsenal fans can take a deep breath. Adebayor has been a key to Arsenal’s near-success this past season and his departure could leave the team with a hole the size of a pine tree in its attacking department.

But there is more than attacking proficiency that Arsenal have to gain should Adebayor stay with the club. Arsene Wenger has struggled to keep hold of some of his players. Long term commitment from the likes of Adebayor and Fabregas would help the team build for the future and keep it near the top while the next generation of young superstars gets ready to take the Gunners back to its glory days.
