After helping QPR to promotion to the Premier League from the Championship last season Adel Taarabt looks set to move to French Ligue One PSG.
It seems a strange move considering he will have the chance to play in the English top flight next season.
Disaster
It would be an absolutely disaster for QPR if they lose their star player. He was the player that took QPR from being a decent team to a good team.
And he is by far the Hoops best player and I really do believe that it could cost Neil Warnock’s side next season. He was also named Championship Player of the Year last season.
Chance
Next season is the chance for the 22 year-old attacker to prove that he is good enough for the top flight after failing to make the breakthrough with Tottenham in the Premier League. Taarabt was a bargain when QPR signed the Moroccan for just £1million from Spurs.
He proved last season that he has got talent and the ability to take a game by the scruff of the neck. He never doubted his own ability but a move away from QPR now would be a very strange one at this point of time.
PSG
French Ligue One side PSG are tracking the mercurial star and are set to put in a formal bid. The French club have recently been taken over by a Qatari consortium and are hoping to return the club to their former glories.
A move to PSG would be a really big step down in standard of league. PSG are still one of the biggest draws in French football but have struggled to claim silverware in recent years. The new owners are hoping they can significantly strengthen the clubs squad this summer.
Acceptance
QPR boss Neil Warnock seems to have already accepted that his star player will be leaving and isn’t putting up much of a fight against the Moroccan leaving Loftus Road. It also seems there is something going on behind the scenes at the club that the outside world doesn’t know about.
The QPR hierarchy have invested a lot of money in the team, for a Championship standards anyway. However they have told Warnock he hasn’t got any money to spend and even if Taarabt is sold that won’t change.
It’s not an ideal situation for a team set to play in the Premier League next season. In fact it’s a really poor way for the club to prepare for a stint in the top flight.
Bigger
Nobody has actually revealed that Taarabt would consider a move to French football. The Moroccan youngster however moved to France when he was just nine months old from his homeland and he also spent his early professional years in the country.
I suppose it would be something of a homecoming for the attacker if he is homesick. After last season though I would of thought that Taarabt would have wanted to tested himself at the top level. If not with QPR, then with another Premier League club.
Shame
It would be a shame if QPR lost Taarabt. He is the sort of player that gets the fans off their seats. He may be temperamental at times but on his day he is a joy to watch. If he does leave Rangers then it won’t only be a loss to the club but also to the English top flight.
Will Adel Taarabt be leaving QPR this summer?
