Hamburg director Frank Arnesen said Rene Adler will decide on whether to make the switch to the Imtech Arena from Bayer Leverkusen in April.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper has already passed his medical with HSV but final talks between the two parties are yet to be concluded.
Arnesen expressed confidence that the Germany international will sign a permanent deal with the club next month.
“All medical checks were passed, a decision will come in mid-April,” he told Goal.com.
“I do not feel that HSV are not his first choice.”
Adler, who missed the first half of the season with a knee injury, has fallen down the pecking order at BayArena with Bernd Leno replacing him as the first choice goalkeeper.
Hamburg are 14th in the Bundesliga standings, four points adrift of the relegation zone.
