Afellay to join Barca in January

Barcelona are close to reaching an agreement with PSV and everything suggests Ibrahim Afellay will move to Camp Nou in January.

Marcel Brands, PSV sporting director, has confirmed the talks with Barcelona are underway, with Barcelona vice president Josep Maria Bartomeu arriving to Holland yesterday.

“The clubs have officially started negotiations regarding Afellay’s transfer to Barcelona, but there is no guarantee when the agreement will be reached,” Marcel Brands said.

Barcelona have reportedly agreed to pay €3 million for the Holland international, who will join the Catalans in January even though he would be available on a free transfer at the end of the season.

With so many clubs interested in the player’s services, Barcelona decided to act immediately and avoid risk of missing out on Afellay in the summer.
