Congo’s TP Mazembe have upstaged Brazilian club Internacional 2-0 in a massive upset to reach the Club World Cup final in Abu Dhabi.

The final whistle prompted wild celebrations by the Mazembe players, in one of the most famous victories by an African club in world football.

Mulota Kabangu opened the scoring in the 53rd minute, before Dioko Kaluyituka sealed the win in the 86th minute for the Congolese side.

Kabangu struck a right-footed volley into the top right corner, after controlling an Amia Ekanga knockdown.

But Mazembe’s lead only motivated their opponents and the Congolese defenders had their hands full trying to neutralise several gilt-edged chances by the Brazilians.

The hero for Mazembe was goalkeeper Muteba Kidiaba, who thwarted constant attacks from Internacional to keep a clean sheet.

Kaluyituka’s long-range strike made sure of the victory, after he turned inside two defenders and his right-foot shot went inside the near post past Internacional ‘keeper Renan.

In the final, the African champions will take on either European champions Inter Milan or Asian champions Seongnam Ilhwa , whose semi-final is on Wednesday.

Saturday’s final will be preceded by the third-place play-off in which Internacional will play the loser of the second semi-final.
