Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen is in line to be handed a new contract at White Hart Lane, according to his official representative.
There have been some speculations regarding the player’s future in North London, but the Belgium international ultimately remained with the Spurs.
And he looks set to be rewarded for his loyalty as his agent is in negotiations with club officials over a new long-term contract.
“We have spoken to Daniel Levy about a new contract for Jan and the negotiations were very good – we hope to sort everything out very soon,” agent Mustapha Nakhli told Sky Sports.
“He is happy at Tottenham and wants to play for the club. He wants to play Champions League with Tottenham and he has a very good feeling about the new manager.
“Last year they made many changes and brought in many new players and it was not so good, but this season it is possible for Tottenham to qualify for the Champions League.”
Tottenham pipped quite a few top clubs for Vertonghen’s signature back in the summer of 2012 and the defender proved to be an instant hit at White Hart Lane.
The 27-year-old has so far amassed 59 Premier League appearances, scoring 4 goals and becoming one of club’s key players in the process.
Following a bright start to the Premiership campaign, Spurs were hammered by Liverpool at White Hart Lane, but they are priced at 11/10 to return to winning ways against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
