Agent: Groningen rejected €7 million for Tadic

The agent of Groningen midfielder Dusan Tadic has revealed that his client was on the verge of transfer deadline day move to Twente.

The Euroborg outfit had earlier rejected loan offers for Tadic from Roma and Lazio, as they were only interested in an outright sale.

Twente tried everything to sign the Serbian winger before the transfer deadline, but Groningen chiefs ultimately decided to keep hold of their prized asset.

“It was tense, but based on the talks with Groningen chiefs on Monday, I have predicted such a scenario,” Tadic’s representative Zoran Pavlovic told Serbian daily Vecernje Novosti.

“Groningen are not giving up on European ambitions, they are also under pressure from the fans, so they did not have the courage to sell Tadic this winter. Negotiations with Twente have been shelved until the summer.”

Borussia Moenchengladbach were awaiting developments as they wanted to sign Tadic as a replacement for Borussia-bound Marco Reus.

“The Germans saw Tadic as a replacement for Reus and they waited for news from Groningen until the final day. Twente were more persistent, but the outcome was the same.”

Pavlovic then confirmed that Groningen had rejected a €7 million offer from Twente.

“They rejected a €7 million offer and decided to take a chance. We will see what happens in the summer, all I know is that Twente and Borussia will not give up.”

The Serbian international arrived to Euroborg in the summer of 2010 from Serbian giants Vojvodina and he made an instant impact on the Eredivisie.

Tadic finished his first season as the leading assist maker in Eredivisie, having created 22 goals for his teammates, while scoring 7 league goals.

He continued with impressive performances this season, scoring 3 goals and setting up 9 more in 19 Eredivisie games.
