The agent of Barcelona playmaker Xavi Hernandez has revealed that his client is set to be offered a new deal at Camp Nou.
The experienced midfielder is one of the longest serving players at the club and remains a key player for the Catalans.
It is for that reason that club chiefs are eager to offer the player a new contract at Camp Nou and ensure that he ends his playing career at Barcelona.
Xavi’s representative has revealed that he was contacted by the club officials regarding a new deal for his client.
“The club informed us last Friday of their intention to renew his contract because they want to keep Xavi after his current deal expires in 2014,” agent Ivan Corretja said in an interview to Catalan TV station Esport3.
“So it is normal that we begin to talk about the issue, because in June would be too late.”
The 32-year-old has two years left on his deal at Camp Nou, but he is determined to end his career at Barcelona and will, therefore, welcome the talks over a new deal.
Xavi has spent his entire career with the Catalans, making 419 league appearances for the club and scoring 49 goals.
