Agent Jorge Mendes is pushing for Joao Felix, who is reportedly desperate to leave Atletico Madrid as soon as possible, to join Aston Villa in January, according to The Athletic.
Having arrived from Benfica as a huge prospect for a fee reportedly exceeding €120 million in 2019, Felix signed a seven-year deal with the Rojiblancos, but now, with four years of the deal still left to run, he finds himself at odds with head coach Diego Simeone and keen on trying his luck elsewhere. It is believed that Atletico still want more than €100m to relinquish his services, so a temporary solution in form of a loan might be the most plausible option for Villa, who are in turn believed to have expressed an interest in taking the 23-year-old Portugal international to Birmingham.
Obviously a top talent but with still room and time for development, Felix has been linked with the likes of Manchester United, City and Liverpool, but a short spell at Villa might make sense for him to see if the Premier League suits him before pursuing long-term employment there. After all, the fiasco that his transfer to Atletico seems to have become might have taught him something in that aspect.
