(GSM) – Yossi Benayoun’s agent has dismissed reports suggesting that Italian giants Roma have contacted him, while expecting the Liverpool midfielder to stay at Anfield.
The Israel international recently fuelled speculation about his future by admitting that he did not know whether he would still be at Anfield next season.
Roma are understood to be keeping tabs on Benayoun and his representative Ronen Katzav admits the interest is flattering.
Katzav accepts that Benayoun would remain open-minded if his situation at Liverpool changed, but the agent does not foresee that happening.
Benayoun is under contract with the Reds and has not been told that he is surplus to requirements so Katzav is reluctant to dwell on the transfer talk.
“We weren’t contacted by Roma,” Katzav told forzaroma.info. “We know of an interest from Roma, but there was no contact.
“Would Roma be a welcome destination? Yes, it couldn’t be otherwise.
“But to speak is useless because my client has a contract with Liverpool and he’s good in England.
“Nobody from the Reds has told me that Yossi is on the market, so I couldn’t say how much his value is.
“For now, the future of Benayoun is at Liverpool. If new scenarios open, we’ll see in the summer.”
