Agent talks up Benfica move for Jonas

Portuguese giants Benfica would be an ideal destination for Brazilian attacker Jonas, according to the player’s official representative.

It is believed that the Eagles have made a move on the highly rated footballer after missing out on Arsenal’s Joel Campbell and they are widely expected to wrap up the deal in the coming weeks.

Jonas’ agent has moved to confirm that talks are in progress, suggesting that his client would be a great addition to the squad at Estadio da Luz.

“If everything goes well with Benfica, Jonas would be prepared to help Benfica in all competitions,” his brother and agent Tiago Goncalves said to Radio Renascenca.

“Jonas has managed 52 goals and 23 assists during the three years at Benfica. He formed a sensational partnership with Roberto Soldado.”

The 30-year-old has become a free agent after Valencia officials surprisingly opted against extending his contract and he is free to join the Eagles outside of the transfer window.

Valencia has so far been Jonas’ only European club, with the forward starting his career at Guarani and also playing for Santos, Gremio and Portuguesa in Brazil.

The highly rated attacker enjoyed a highly productive spell with Gremio, having bagged 40 goals in 74 league appearances for the club.
