The agent of Juventus striker Mirko Vucinic has revealed that his client was on the verge of joining Napoli before signing for Juventus.
The Montenegro international made a move to Juventus from Roma last summer, but only after Napoli had given up on signing him.
Vucinic’s representative reveals the Azzurri were very interested in the 28-year-old when they were preparing for life without Ezequiel Lavezzi.
“The Partenepeo outfit asked me for him,” representative Alessandro Lucci told Radio CRC. “They have always been great admirers of him since his Roma days.
“There was a time when it looked like Ezequiel Lavezzi could leave and Napoli’s interest only increased, but then the Argentine stayed.”
The experienced striker was sold to Juventus for €15 million after spending five years at Olimpico, and he proved to be an instant hit in Turin.
Despite mostly playing on the wing during his first season with the Bianconeri, Vucinic scored 9 goals in 32 Serie A games to help Juventus clinch the Serie A title.
The Montenegrin has established an excellent attacking partnership with Sebastian Giovinco at the start of the new season and has been one of team’s top performers this term.
