The Daily Mail are today reporting that Daniel Agger has shocked everybody at Liverpool by saying he would leave Anfield if Barcelona made a move for him.
The Danish international’s future has been under some doubt at the English Premier League club but it was Manchester City who seemed to want to sign him.
Now though, the La Liga side are keeping tabs on the defender after he said: ‘Barcelona would be great. They are the one team who would make it difficult for me to stay.’
It has been suggested that new boss at the Nou Camp Tito Vilanova has been on the lookout for a versatile defender and that he is an admirer of Agger.
However, after he said he wanted to stay at Liverpool earlier in the week, Barcelona had given up hope on the deal.
This quote could now re-spark their interest in the Dane. The Reds did have a £30 million asking price for him for Manchester City. That said though, they would apparently be willing to lower their asking price for the Catalan club.
Agger would be happy to sign a new long-term contract on Merseyside should it meet his demands, if it does not then he could be heading out in this transfer window.
