While Premier League teams might have broken up for March’s international break, there is no doubt that bosses from up and down the country will already be planning for next season.
With only nine top-flight games remaining before the 2020/21 campaign draws to a close in May, clubs such as Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool still have some contract issues that need resolving.
On a list that includes some of Europe’s biggest stars, we have taken a look at three heavyweights who could be leaving England on a free this summer.
Georginio Wijnaldum – Liverpool
Long since relinquishing their Premier League crown, there is no doubt that many around Anfield will agree that this has been a disastrous campaign on Merseyside.
While the jury might still be out on former World Cup-winner Thiago Alcântara, there still remains a string of speculation surrounding Georginio Wijnaldum’s future with his contract ticking away.
Although The Reds might have made it clear that they want the Dutch international to stay put at Anfield past the summer, The Times reported over the weekend that Wijnaldum is inching towards a move away.
Previously linked with a potential move to Spanish giants Barcelona during the January transfer window, Wijnaldum has reportedly agreed on a pre-contract deal to become the first signing of Joan Laporta’s second spell as president of the European heavyweights.
Lifting both domestic and European titles during his five-year stay with Liverpool, the 30-year-old sees his current deal come to an end this summer and he already has close links with Barca.
With the Spanish side now under the guidance of his close compatriot Ronald Koeman, The Times are reporting that Wijnaldum will move to the Nou Camp on a free this summer.
Sergio Aguero – Manchester City
While Manchester City might still have a stunning quadruple-winning campaign on the cards, it appears that this will be the final season that Sergio Aguero spends under Pep Guardiola.
Despite many around The Etihad believing earlier in the season that the 32-year-old would sign up for one more year, it is widely thought that Aguero’s record-breaking decade with The Sky Blues is drawing to a close.
Dealing with a string of injury issues over the past 12 months and managing to record just a single Premier League goal this season, the top-flight icon will not be short of options when his contract comes to an end this summer.
Although both PSG and Barcelona have been heavily linked with a potentially lucrative move for the City superstar, it was also reported by The Daily Mail last week that Chelsea are keen on keeping Aguero in the Premier League.
With new Blues boss Thomas Tuchel open about his attacking issues at Stamford Bridge, it has been suggested that Chelsea are willing to battle the likes of Inter Milan in order to pounce on the Argentina ace.
Edinson Cavani – Manchester United
Although Edinson Cavani might have only made the free switch to Manchester United back in October, it appears that the Uruguayan marksman already has his sights set on an immediate move away from Old Trafford.
With The Red Devils crashing out of the FA Cup at the hands of Leicester over the weekend, Cavani’s father announced earlier in the month that his son is “unhappy” at the Premier League giants.
Although Ole Gunnar Solskjaer might have made it clear that he wants the former PSG ace to extend his stay past the summer, it has been reported that the 34-year-old is keen on moving back to South America.
Becoming PSG’s all-time leading goalscorer after 200 goals in 301 appearances for the French giants, Cavani has also gained a string of fans in England.
With only Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes recording more goals for United this season, The Sun reported over the weekend that Cavani is desperate to move to Boca Juniors when his deal expires this summer.
