The future of Carlos Tevez and the arrival of Sergio Aguero have dominated the agenda in Manchester City’s build-up to the Dublin Super Cup.
Aguero joined City from Spanish club Atletico Madrid on Thursday.
He is not expected to feature in Dublin after playing in the Copa America this month for Argentina.
While the arrival of Aguero represents a major coup for City manager Roberto Mancini, the future of another Argentina international Tevez remains uncertain.
City’s captain and top-scorer last season, Tevez is determined to leave the club to be closer to his family in Argentina.
But with a transfer to Brazilian side Corinthians falling through, the 27-year-old may find himself stuck at Etihad Stadium next season.
“I think that for the moment, Carlos is a City player,” Mancini said.
“Carlos is an important player for us, but I don’t know what can happen for us in the next few days.”
“Aguero is here because we think that he’s a top player for us and he can have a big future at the club.”
“I think that a top squad needs to have four good strikers because this season we will be playing in the Champions League, FA Cup, Carling Cup and Barclays Premier League. I think that we need more strikers.”
“It’s my opinion that Sergio is a really top player because he a young guy but he has already scored a lot of goals. I think he can score many more for us.”
“I think he needs to get to know the Premier League, because it is so different from La Liga, but I think that after two months he can understand the Premier League and he can score goals and win more trophies with us.”
Aguero, who was unveiled to the media on the Aviva Stadium pitch, has high hopes for the latest chapter in his career.
“I’m very happy to be here and my enjoyed my time with my new teammates today,” he said.
“I’m just looking forward to playing my first game and helping my new club move forward. That’s what we all want to do.”
“I think we can achieve a lot. I always play to win titles and it will be a tough year, but hopefully we can win some silverware.”
City will take on a League of Ireland XI on Saturday before facing Serie A team Inter Milan on Sunday.
Scottish Premier League side Celtic are also taking part in the pre-season competition.
