Aguero pens Man City extension; Weimann set for contract talks

Manchester City forward has signed a one-year contract extension which will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2017.

Manchester City forward has signed a one-year contract extension which will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2017, according to Sky Sports.

Aguero, who joined City from Atletico Madrid for a reported fee of €45 million in the summer of 2011, had three years remaining on his current before putting pen to paper on a new deal.

Prior to signing a new deal, the Argentina international had been linked with a summer move to Real Madrid, but moved to distance himself from such speculation, telling The Sun: “There are always rumours in the summer, but I am very happy at City. I’m going to work hard and everything else is just rumours.

“Every player wants to play in big teams that win titles. We didn’t win anything last season but we have won trophies in the last few years so there is no reason to go.”

Shortly thereafter, City confirmed the Argentine had agreed a one-year extension to his contract at the Etihad Stadium.

Aguero is delighted with his contract extension, which follows recent new deals for David Silva, Gael Clichy and Yaya Toure.

“I’m very happy at City and I feel very appreciated. It’s been barely two years since I’ve arrived and sometimes I feel like I’ve been here for all my life,” Aguero told the club’s official website.

“I have a fantastic relationship with the fans, and that always reminds me of our title and that goal against QPR. I can never forget that moment.

“Now I am looking forward to next season and pushing hard to win the title again.”

The 24-year-old striker bagged just 12 goals and two assists in 30 league appearances for Manchester City in 2012-13 after netting 23 goals, including the title-winning goal against Queens Park Rangers on the last kick of the season, and eight assists last term.

Weimann set for contract talks

The agent of Austria international forward Andreas Weimann is set to hold contract talks with Aston Villa regarding the long-term future of the 22-year-old on Tuesday, Sky Sports understands.

Weimann, who joined Villa from Austrian side SK Rapid Wien in 2007, is reportedly attracting interest from English Premier League pair Newcastle United and Norwich City and Italian Serie A giants FC Internazionale Milano.

The 22-year-old’s agent, Robert Groener, has moved to distance the Austria international from a potential move to Serie A, insisting he will stay in the Premier League.

“There is a meeting planned and we hope that we can come to a successful conclusion,” said Groener.

“Andi will stay in the Premier League, but at which club I do not know at this moment. There are offers, but we will first meet Villa and listen to them.”

Weimann tallied 12 goals and three assists in 38 matches across all competitions for Aston Villa last season.
