Aguero will leave Atletico this summer but where will he end up?

Atletico Madrid striker Sergio ‘Kun’ Aguero will leave the Spanish capital this summer.

The Argentinian international has been linked with a move away from Atleti for awhile but he has now released a statement saying he wants to move on.

Statement

Aguero’s statement read: “ I said long ago that when I wanted to go, I would say so publicly. And the time has come,”

“So I keep to my word and here I am. I find it hard to leave Atletico. It hurts and saddens me. I’ve thought long and hard and I am convinced that I must be true to myself. I do not think I put a ceiling on the ability to keep learning, to keep growing.

“After five intense years, this stage for me personally is over and I have to give way to a new one. I’m about to turn 23 and I have everything before me. Suffice it to say that this is not an economic issue but strictly a sporting one.

Exciting

Kun Aguero is one of those players who gets fans excited and off their seats. With pace, power and dribbling skills he has almost all the qualities required to be a world-class attacker.

Aguero is wanted by most of the top clubs in Europe. In recent months he’s been linked with Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester United. However now that the 22 year-old has made it known that he wants to leave Atletico lots of other clubs are likely to enter the race to sign him.

Unlikely

Chelsea were one of the favourites to sign Aguero before the exit of boss Carlo Ancelotti. He would be a superb signing for the Blues but a move to Stamford Bridge will depend on who becomes the next Chelsea boss.

Real Madrid are also believed to be interested in signing Aguero but Atletico Madrid won’t be keen on selling their star asset to their city rivals. It would be hard to swallow for the Atletico Madrid fans to watch the striker in their bitter-rivals colours next season.

Possible

Manchester United have already signed Atletico Madrid keeper David De Gea and could make it a double deal by capturing the Argentinian striker. Whether United can afford the reported £45 million price tag remains to be seen.

United’s city rivals Manchester City are also believed to be interested in signing Aguero. There have been doubts over Aguero’s international teammate Carlos Tevez’s future at Eastlands. Aguero would be a classy replacement for the former-United star.

City have ambitions to be the biggest club in Europe and Aguero is the quality of player they will be looking to sign. The Citizens can afford Aguero’s wages and also the transfer fee. They can also offer Champions League football next season.

The only viable destination for the star in Spain would be champions Barcelona. The Catalans will be looking for quality additions to the squad this summer. The only drawback could be the hefty transfer fee.

Exits

Atletico Madrid have underperformed in recent seasons. The club from the capital have struggled for any consistency in the last couple of campaigns. They will lose two of their top stars in the shape of Aguero and the aforementioned De Gea this summer.

Atletico will need some major rebuilding this summer with out-of-favour Uruguayan striker Diego Forlan set to leave the Vicente Calderon. Atletico’s squad looks likely to have a completely new look about it next season.

Bigger

Kun Aguero has outgrown Atletico Madrid and is ready to step up to the next stages of his development. A club where he will play at the top level of football and develop his immense potential. I fear that if he stays at Atletico then he will not fulfil his true potential.

Luckily enough for him and his potential it looks like he will be one of the major movers of this summers transfer window. He could be a big success in the Premier League and I would love to see him plying his trade in the English top flight next season.

Which club will sign Sergio ‘Kun’ Aguero?
