Wigan manager Steve Bruce is ready to smash the club’s transfer record with an £8million bid for Everton striker Andy Johnson.
Bruce will try to outbid rivals Middlesbrough, West Ham, Manchester City, Aston Villa and the most recent suitor Sunderland, for the 27 year old England forward, according to a report in the Daily Mirror.
The Latics tried to lure Johnson to the JJB Stadium when he quit Crystal Palace two seasons ago but he decided on a move to Everton. Wigan hopes that having played under Bruce at Birmingham City together with the chance to lead the attack at a Premiership club and a £50,000-a-week salary will seal the deal for them.
