Ajax Amsterdam haven’t been able to keep up with AZ Alkmaar, instead losing 1-0 at FC Groningen. The gap between AZ and Ajax now stands at six points.

After AZ’s win over De Graafschap on Saturday, Ajax needed a win to remain at three points from the leaders. However, Marco van Basten’s side failed to impress at Euroborg stadium.

With six minutes left in the first half, Groningen scored what turned out to be the only goal through Danny Holla.

Ajax’ Jan Vertonghen was ex-pulsed on 86 minutes to confirm the away side’s misery in this game.
