Ajax to bid for Eto’o

Dutch Eredivisie champions Ajax are being linked with an ambitious bid for Cameroon striker Samuel Eto’o, according to Voetbal International.

The Amsterdammers are a bit short of quality up front and they aim to try and lure the former Chelsea star to Amsterdam ArenA.

Sporting director Marc Overmars has already established the initial contact with the striker’s representatives and further developments are expected in the coming days.

Samuel Eto’o became a free agent as his deal with Chelsea expired in June, and he has so far been linked with Merseyside rivals Liverpool and Everton.

However, should he decided to join a club that would guarantee him regular playing time, an offer from Ajax is likely to prove tempting.

The 33-year-old joined Chelsea on a free transfer from Anzhi in the final days of the summer transfer window and went on to score 9 goals in 21 Premier League outings, while netting 3 Champions League goals as well.
