Ajax confirm interest in Chivu

Ajax boss Frank de Boer has moved to confirm speculations that the Amserdammers are interested in Inter defender Cristian Chivu.

The Romanian defender has just over six months on his deal at Giuseppe Meazza and is widely tipped to leave the club in January.

Chivu reportedly has a number of offers from high-profile clubs already, including the one from his former club Ajax.

“Chivu is definitely an option in January,” Ajax boss Frank de Boer was quoted as saying in Voetbal Primeur.

“We must wait and see whether it is feasible, but Cristian has always been very interested in Ajax.”

The Dutch giants expect key defender Jan Vertonghen to leave the club in January and see Cristian Chivu as a perfect replacement.
