(GSM) – Ajax have won the Dutch Cup with ease, beating arch rivals Feyenoord 1-4 in Rotterdam for a 6-1 aggregate victory.
After last week’s 2-0 win in Amsterdam, most expected that the Amsterdam outfit would not be giving away that comfortable lead in the return leg.
And that expectation turned out to be correct as Luis Suarez scored the opening goal on four minutes.
Urby Emanuelson almost added another but hit the post, but in-form forward Siem de Jong did net for 0-2 four minutes after the hour.
Jon Dahl Tomasson pulled one back in the 72nd minute but at that point, Feyenoord needed another four to win the tie. When De Jong got his second of the night in the 78th minute, even the most hopeful Feyenoord support had to acknowledge defeat.
Four minutes later, Suarez got his second for a 1-4 final result.
Ajax succeed SC Heerenveen, who beat FC Twente to win last year’s ‘KNVB Beker’.
The final was played in two legs as the Dutch FA decided that a single match in Rotterdam, with away fans, would be too dangerous. Instead, the two games were only attended by home fans.
