Dutch Eredivisie giants AFC Ajax Amsterdam have rubbished reports suggesting that they have agreed a deal to sell Denmark international midfielder Christian Eriksen to Liverpool this summer, Sky Sports understands.
Eriksen, 21, is considered to be one of the brightest talents in European football.
The 21-year-old playmaker, who has scored 12 goals for Ajax in 2012-13, will address his long-term at the end of the season after rejecting the chance to extend his current contract at the Amsterdam Arena, which expires in the summer of 2014.
“Christian has informed us that he won’t be signing a new deal with us at this time,” Ajax technical directors Marc Overmars told Voetbal International. “I think that he and his agent will want to see what options are available in the summer.
The Denmark international is rumoured to be a summer transfer target of Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, who wants to bolster his attacking options ahead of next season.
Despite contrary reports, Ajax have insisted that no deal is in place to sell Eriksen to Liverpool.
“We will send out a press release when there is an agreement,” Ajax press manager Eefje Schep told Danish TV2.
“Also if there is only a deal between Ajax and the club. So at this time there is no agreement between Ajax and Liverpool.”
Eriksen, who joined Ajax from Danish Superliga side Odense BK in 2008, took just 10 seconds to reject a concrete offer from Manchester City in the summer of 2012, according to the player’s agent Martin Schoot.
So much for ‘sleeping on it.’
Falcao plays down Man Utd rumours
Atletico Madrid talisman Radamel Falcao has played down speculation linking him with a summer move to Manchester United, Sky Sports reports.
Falcao, 27, is one of the most highly-rated strikers in Europe and has reportedly attracted interest from the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Real Madrid.
Recent reports have pegged Manchester United as the favourites to land the Colombia international, with rumours suggesting a deal has already been agreed upon.
However, Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone and Manchester United counterpart Sir Alex Ferguson have rubbished reports of an agreed deal between the two clubs for the player in question.
Falcao has also attempted to wave aside these reports, insisting he is focused on Atletico Madrid as speculation mounts regarding his uncertain future.
“In recent weeks I have tried to isolate myself and not think about the rumours about my future,” Falcao told Colombian radio station RCN.
“I do not really know where that information has come from, that is part of the press.
“I’m focused only on Atletico Madrid. I do not let the market rumours affect my performance.”
Falcao has scored 24 goals in 28 league games for Atletico Madrid this season. The 27-year-old is currently the third top goal-scorer in La Liga behind Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid), 31, and Lionel Messi (FC Barcelona), 43.
