Ajax have shown interest in Finnish defender Niklas Moisander, according to AZ Alkmaar director of football Earnest Stewart.
The Dutch giants are expected to cash in on star defender Jan Vertonghen at the end of the season and are already lining up potential replacement.
The Amsterdammers were linked with a move for AZ Alkmaar defender Niklas Moisander, and their interest in the player has now been confirmed.
“Ajax have expressed interest in him,” AZ Alkmaar director of football Earnest Stewart told Voetbal International.
“But no more than that. In this crucial stage (of the season), we are not negotiating. Only after the competition we are going to discuss transfer issues.”
The AZ official also revealed that they rejected a bid from PSV Eindhoven last summer.
“But, when we saw the bid was not sufficient, we decided to keep hold of him.”
The Finnish defender spent two years at Ajax after arriving to Amsterdam from TPS, but he moved to Zwolle in 2006 without playing a single game for the club.
Two years later he joined AZ Alkmaar and has since developed into one of the best defenders in Dutch Eredivisie.
Moisander has been in fine form this season, and he scored a total of 3 goals in 46 competitive appearances for the club.
