Ajax manager Marco van Basten has apologized to his players following his public criticism after the Eredivisie match with FC Volendam on the weekend.
The Amsterdam outfit did beat Volendam 2-1 but should have scored more goals, according to the coach. However, he soon regretted his words.
“I should have dealt with this internally, and I told this to my players,” he said.
“Volendam almost equalised in the last minutes. That really annoyed me. But after conversations with others I realized that I should have been less critical. I shared this with the players, because I would want them to deal with some things internally as well.”
Van Basten joined Ajax las summer, after a four-year stint with the Dutch national team.
