Ajax move for Ola John; Marseille to sign Thauvin

Portuguese newspaper A Bola understands that Ajax have submitted an official proposal for Benfica forward Ola John.

The Amsterdammers are searching for attacking reinforcements after Christian Eriksen left the club and Siem de Jong picked up an injury.

With summer signing Bojan Krkic also struggling at the moment, Ajax officials are hoping to lure winger Ola John from Benfica.

A Bola has learned that the Dutch giants have offered to sign the player on a season-long loan, with an option to buy him outright for €7 million.

Following the heavy summer recruitment, the 21-year-old has lost his place in the starting line-up at Estadio da Luz, but the Eagles are still not satisfied with the latest offer for his services, having paid Twente €9 million for him last summer.

Since arriving at Benfica, the Netherlands international has featured in 23 Primeira Liga matches, but did not get on the scoresheet.

Marseille to sign Thauvin

Marseille seem to have finally reached an agreement with Lille over the signing of French winger Florian Thauvin, according to L’Equipe.

Despite missing out on the player in January, OM have been trying to lure him to Stade Velodrome ever since the transfer window reopened in July.

Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle were all showing interest, but the player himself was keen to join Marseille and it looks as though he is set to sign for the French giants before the transfer window closes.

L’Equipe understands that the two clubs have reached an agreement over a €15 million fee, with the deal set to be made official later today.

Forian Thauvin, 20, is widely regarded as one of France’s hottest prospects, and he has been in scintillating form last season, notching 10 goals in 32 Ligue 1 matches for Bastia.

He also started all 7 matches for France on the road to the Under-20 World Cup trophy, scoring 3 goals in the process.

Premiership sides battle for Wijnaldum

Cardiff City and West Bromwich Albion are locked in the battle for PSV Eindhoven hotshot Georginio Wijnaldum, reports De Telegraaf.

The 22-year-old has seen his stock rise a great deal over the last couple of years, with a number of Premier League clubs casting admiring glances his way.

According to De Telegraaf, both Cardiff City and West Bromwich have attempted to sign the youngster this summer, but he has rejected the opportunity to move to England.

Wijnaldum doesn’t think this is the right time to leave PSV Eindhoven, especially after being given the captain’s armband.

Despite his fragile age, the midfielder has already made 183 Eredivisie appearances, scoring 49 goals in the process.

After netting 14 times in 33 league matches last term, Wijnaldum continued where he left off and went on to score 3 goals in 5 Eredivisie appearances this season.
