Ajax set to sign Tim Krul

Dutch Eredivisie giants Ajax are on the verge of agreeing a deal to sign Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul, Voetbal International has suggested.

The Amsterdammers expect to sell first choice keeper Jasper Cillessen to Barcelona in the coming days and they want his international teammate to replace him at Amsterdam Arena.

Everything suggests that Krul will join on a season-long loan, but he is first expected to sign a one-year extension to his contract at St James’ Park.

The 28-year-old has another year left on his current deal and Newcastle clearly want to avoid losing him on a free transfer next summer.

Tim Krul had missed a large chunk of last season through a knee ligament injury, but he has since resumed full training and is reportedly ready for first team action.

Despite being linked with quite a few top clubs, the experienced shot-stopper has so far resisted temptation to leave the Magpies.
