Ajax have named a squad of just 17 players for Tuesday’s Champions League meeting with Midtjylland due to a reported coronavirus outbreak in their camp.
According to Dutch outlets De Telegraaf and RTL Nieuws, 11 players from the first and second team tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss the trip to Denmark.
The club have not confirmed the reason for the reduced numbers in their travelling party.
Ryan Gravenberch, Davy Klaassen, Dusan Tadic, Andre Onana and Maarten Stekelenburg have been omitted from Ajax’s group.
Kjell Scherpen, who has yet to make a senior appearance for the Eredivise side, is therefore the only goalkeeper available to Erik ten Hag for the game.
Ajax have picked up one point from their opening two Group D matches with Liverpool and Atalanta, leaving them in need of a positive result against Midtjylland.
Under UEFA rules, Ajax must play the game if 13 or more players on its A list are available.
