Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi defended Edinson Cavani and labelled him one of the world’s best strikers despite his wastefulness against Arsenal.
The Uruguayan headed in an opener after just 42 seconds, but he squandered several chances in the 1-1 Champions League draw on Tuesday.
Despite that, Al-Khelaifi was full of praise for Cavani, who missed an open goal during the Group A draw.
“I have great confidence in Edi. This is a great striker, one of the best in the world,” he said.
“He wants to score more goals. His first goal is beautiful, it’s a shame he does not score after. Confidence will come. It’s normal not to always score.”
Unai Emery’s men looked set to start their campaign with a win, only for Alexis Sanchez to earn a point for Arsenal in the second half.
Al-Khelaifi said PSG were punished for not putting Arsenal away earlier.
He said: “I am very proud of my players, my team, my coach.
“It was a great game, but the result does not show what we did on the field. We could have won with three to four goals. We must continue working.
“I trust my players to show that we are a great team.”
The result stretched PSG’s winless run to three matches ahead of a trip to Caen in Ligue 1 on Friday.
