Bayern Munich left-back David Alaba has committed his future to the Bundesliga champions until 2018 after signing a new deal on Monday.
“I am very, very happy,” said Alaba, who has started 12 of Bayern’s 14 Bundesliga matches this season, scoring once in the top flight.
The Austria international had 18 months remaining his deal before agreeing the extension, having made his debut for the club in February 2010.
Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge added to Bayern’s official website: “We are very happy that it has led to this very nice conclusion for both sides.
“He has made a wonderful development on the pitch. The coach is very happy, we are very satisfied.”
Alaba made his Bayern bow in a DFB-Pokal tie against Greuther Furth and has gone on to make 115 appearances for the Bavarian giants.
After recovering from a broken foot, he became a key figure in Bayern’s treble-winning campaign last term, making 38 appearances in all competitions.
Despite featuring as a left-back for Bayern, Alaba has proven his versatility for Austria by regularly lining up in the heart of midfield.
He ended their recent FIFA World Cup qualification campaign with six goals, more than any team-mate, as Austria finished third in UEFA Group C.
