Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew could be shown the door on Saturday if his team lose against Southampton

Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew is one of the greatest con men of all time. How he seems to get Premier League clubs to appoint him I do not know.

The Eagles have suffered six consecutive in the top-flight and face a massive home game against Southampton on Saturday.

Media reports this morning suggest that if Palace were to lose against the Saints, then the former Newcastle boss would lose his job.

He has some decent players in his squad

Looking at the Crystal Palace squad, they have a number of very decent players. French international midfielder Yohan Cabaye, England winger Andros Townsend, former-United Wilfried Zaha and the best of all Christian Benteke are all available to Pardew.

Has he made the best use of the resources available to him? No. Could a better manager get more out of the current Palace squad? Yes, probably so.

As he is an Eagles icon from his playing days he has probably been cut a bit more slack than most bosses in the current circumstances. The fact that Palace have endured a nightmare year of just five Premier League wins may now be changing the club’s fans minds slightly, with their side above the relegation zone only on goal difference. It seems the majority want to be rid of Pardew.

He is just not very good

I cannot claim to know Alan Pardew personally. However, from the numerous interviews he has done he comes across as very smug and smarmy, even when he does not really have much to be smug about.

When he was linked with the England job I thought to myself is this how bad English bosses are now Pardew is even being considered for the post? He reminds of a used car salesmen who is trying desperately to sell a car with no wheels, yet he will still talk up the interior.

He might be a nice guy, who knows. However, for me he is just not a very good football manager and his time at Palace has proven that. He did a decent job at Newcastle, before seemingly alienating himself with the Magpies fans.

By the time he left there were few tears amongst the Newcastle fans. However, there were loads when Steve McClaren was appointed as Newcastle boss the season afterwards and launched a one-man relegation mission.

Some pundits and so-called experts rate the Eagles boss, but I cannot see why. If indeed he does get sacked by Palace this season, would he really be given another Premier League job? He should not be, but knowing the nature of the English top-flight it cannot be ruled out.

I can just see his smug face standing next to the owner of whichever club he manages next because it is hard to see him hanging on to his job at Palace much longer.

Next game could see Pardew sacked

Saturday’s home game usually would not be the most daunting of games. The Eagles are understandably underdogs to win this clash at odds of 5/2 to win and end that losing streak.

Southampton have endured an inconsistent campaign so far. However, the Saints will head into this clash on the back of consecutive wins over Everton and Arsenal. Prior to Sunday’s 1-0 win over Everton, the Saints had struggled for victories.

Claude Puel’s side have won just one of their last six away games in the Premier League. So there is hope for Palace. However, that hope will need to be supplemented by an actual improvement in performance or god forbid inspiration from their manager.

There is a very real possibility that Alan Pardew’s side may lose a seventh game on the trot on Saturday and slip into the relegation zone. It would be a major surprise if he survives the chop after yet another defeat that is for sure.

I really like Crystal Palace as a football club. The fans are great and usually the team show great heart. The Palace fans deserve better than Alan Pardew and let’s hope they get it if Pardew is shown the door.

Will Alan Pardew leave Crystal Palace this weekend?
