Following a great deal of speculation, it has now been confirmed that Jordi Alba has signed a brand new contract with Spanish champions Barcelona. The new deal is set for five years, and will see him remain at the Nou Camp until at least 2024. There has also been a €500 million buyout clause attached, all but ensuring the 29 year old’s immediate future with Barca.
For a brief period of time it seemed as if the Spaniard could be considering a move away from Barcelona, but now, all of that noise has died out.
Locking Alba down to a long term deal appeared to be the club’s main priority over the course of the last few weeks, and now that it’s happened, it’ll be interesting to see where they place their transfer priorities.
Will they aim to offer current players even more long term deals, or will they go out in search of new talent? Only time will tell.
