According to Sport, Barcelona are gearing up to offer Jordi Alba a brand new contract. The Spaniard’s current deal is set to expire in 2020 but in the wake of interest from a number of Premier League clubs, Barca want to ensure that they can lock him down to a more long term future.
That seems like the smartest move for them especially given their desire to climb back to the top of European football in the Champions League, as veterans like Alba could do wonders for them in terms of squad depth.
The 29 year old has every tool in the box required to be a consistent member of the first team at the Nou Camp for many years to come, but now it’s time for the club to put their money where their mouth is. If they can make the right kind of terms with Jordi then there’s no reason why this can’t be wrapped up in a matter of weeks.
