Alberto Aquilani wants Serie A return

Portuguese daily newspaper O Jogo has learned that Sporting CP midfielder Alberto Aquiliani plans to quit Estadio Jose Alvalade at the end of the season.

The Italian footballer joined the Lions on a free transfer from Fiorentina last summer, but he hasn’t had such a great start to his career in Portugal.

Namely, Aquilani has been unable to nail down a regular starting berth and having started mere three league fixtures this season, he is eager to leave in search of first team football.

There were some clubs showing interest in his services this winter, but the 31-year-old decided to try and prove his worth at Sporting.

But, having failed to do so, he has now set his sights on leaving and a return to Italian Serie A appears on the cards.

Sampdoria are believed to be leading the chase for his signature, while few more Italian clubs are expected to join the race between now and the end of the season.
