Albrighton set for new Villa deal

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert is set to open talks with Marc Albrighton over a new contract, Sky Sports understands.

The winger, who came through the ranks at Villa Park, signed his first professional contract in 2008 but has made just ninety-one first team appearances in those five-and-a-half years.

He was loaned to Championship side Wigan Atheltic earlier in the season, having spent much of the past two years out through injury.

Having made four appearances for the Latics, the 24 year old returned to his parent club, where he has racked up eleven outings in all competitions during this campaign.

The England U21 international will be hoping for a fourth Premier League start of the season as Villa travel to Cardiff City this evening.

Despite losing seven of their last eleven league games, three points this evening could see Lambert’s side move into the top half of the table.
