Sky Sports understands that Toby Alderweireld is yet to be offered a new contract at Tottenham Hotspur.
The defender’s current deal includes a clause that would trigger a release clause of £25m should the North London club extend his stay until 2019, and a new contract would erase this option.
The twenty-eight year old has been a key member of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad for the past two seasons racking up almost seventy league appearances as they finished third and second respectively.
He even contributed to the club’s division-high goals tally of eighty-six after netting in the 7-1 win at Hull City in the final game of the campaign.
Prior to his move to White Hart Lane, the Belgium international has a season-long loan spell with Southampton where he also played under Pochettino while he played one hundred and eighty-six times for Ajax, the club with which he began his career.
