Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld says he will not allow uncertainty over his future to distract him while on international duty with Belgium.
The 24-year-old has been a first-team regular with the Amsterdam side since graduating from their youth academy in 2008, and made 33 appearances as they clinched the Eredivisie title last season.
A string of impressive performances during that period have seen Premier League duo Liverpool and Tottenham strongly linked with a swoop for his services.
However, Alderweireld says he has been fully focused on his job with Belgium, who took on Serbia in UEFA qualification Group A on Friday.
“My father is looking into it, until Saturday I don’t want to hear anything about it,” he explained to belgiumsoccer.be.
“Look, you know how many players in this (Belgium) squad are looking for a transfer, but everyone has placed that in the waiting room until after the game against Serbia.
“That is so important and we have to do everything to take it. My focus right now is not on a transfer.“
The centre-back also insisted that he will only leave Ajax in order to join a club that offers him the opportunity to develop further.
“As I mentioned before, I won’t move to a club where they already have seven or eight central defenders,” he added.
“The Premier League is indeed the most fantastic league in Europe, but we shall see.”
