Russian Premier League side Anzhi are lining up a bid for Ajax stopper Toby Alderweireld, Izvestia has revealed.
It is no secret the club from Makhachkala are searching for a new centre-back after Christopher Samba joined QPR and they have compiled a long list of potential targets.
Russian newspaper Izvestia reports that Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld ranks high on Anzhi’s hit-list.
The Belgian, 23, has made it clear he is searching for a new challenge, and he is widely tipped to leave Ajax at the end of the current campaign.
Alderweireld, who has a contract until June 2014 at Amsterdam ArenA, has been linked to both Tottenham and Newcastle, but Anzhi officials are hoping a big money offer and a promise of Champions League football might lure him to Dagestan.
The highly rated defender has spent his entire professional career at Ajax, making 113 Eredivisie appearances for the club and scoring 6 goals.
